Writing and Research

Designed for Middle and High School students, these courses were developed to strengthen a student's ability to write essays and conduct research. Each course offers a variety of topics but both seek to help build confidence and necessary skills.

Research 101

Designed for middle and high school students, this course takes students through the entire process of writing a research paper.

Lessons include how to pick a topic, how to develop a thesis statement, how to conduct online and in library research, how to vet sources, how to avoid plagiarism, and how to write a paper. Students should have a subject that they will do research on, such as history or biology.

Writing 101

This writing course is suitable for middle and high school students. In this intensive writing class, students will learn the skills needed to write an essay.

This course uses the five paragraph essay as a way to teach students both form and variations in writing essays. Lessons on writing a thesis statement, different approaches to the introduction and conclusion, how to cite sources properly and proofreading are included.
